The Mid Murray Flying Club was formed in 1962 by a group of people who loved flying. So has been the case ever since. They built a clubroom at Swan Hill that is still ideal for our purposes to this day. We also have club rooms at Kerang which forms part of the Mid Murray Flying Club. Each year we hold two or three “breakfasts” to which we invite surrounding aero clubs and attendees so either fly or drive to the function. We hold an annual “Wings Night” where we present students who have done their first solo flight during the year with a Certificate of achievement. We also give Certificates to those who have gained their Pilots licence. This is a great night and is always well attended by both the recipients and other members of the club. A guest speaker is invited and present the audience with a wide range of topics. Last year was on Sky Diving and the speaker held the audience spell bound as he listed the various elements involved in Sky Diving. Our students range in age from 16 to over 60 years of age, so you can see there is always and opportunity.
The Club is managed by a committee of eight who meet monthly on a rotating basis in Swan Hill and Kerang. Currently we have in excess of 80 members.
As stated earlier you can learn to fly from 16 years of age onwards and it is not excessively expensive. We have two trainers, Colin Hokin is our Chief Flying Instructor and Graham Drage is our Chief Instructor. Training can be done on most days to suit the student, but Thursday and Friday are our main days at either Kerang or Swan Hill. However, training can done over the weekend to suit the students needs.
We have two beautiful aircraft both Tecnam twin seaters and they can be hired by our members once they have their licence. The great thing about hiring the clubs planes is that you only pay for you flying time. Why not contact us today and make enquiries about getting your pilots licence? You will find it far easier that you may imagine.
